When my daughter turned sixteen, I told her that I wanted her to try getting her first car on her own. I thought it would be a good learning experience; since she had been saving for a car for a few years anyway, I thought that she should do it all herself with just a little bit of help from me. So I went with her to find a car, then helped her to the CA DMV registration, insurance, and all of that. She is now in her own car, making her own payments, and says she feels really good about it.
